Browns and Nudes

2017

A large-scale public art banner installed on the north side of the Wesley Foundation building at the intersection of Dubuque & Market Sts. in downtown Iowa City.
Reynolds developed and photographed the work, which plays off a 1970s-era makeup advertisement, during her Iowa City residency.
“Reynolds' photographic work imagines the black figures it portrays with aesthetic attention, care, and esteem. In Browns and Nudes, Reynolds explores the mythology of the social standard of beauty while celebrating Black women's magnificence.” - CAS curator Anaïs Duplan
